Clifford Wang

Dr. Wang is Chair of the Department of Medicine at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine (Affiliated) at Stanford University School of Medicine and Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. As President of the Medical Staff, he oversaw the quality of care delivered by the medical staff and the quality improvement and patient safety activities of the hospital. He has been at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center for over 25 years.

Dr. Wang has served as Acting Chief Medical Officer in 2012 and Associate Chief Medical Officer at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. He is a board-certified practicing hospitalist and was Chief of Hospital Medicine at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center having been one of the founders of the Hospitalist Program. He was a member of the Executive Leadership Group at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and a member of the Santa Clara County’s Health and Hospital Committee. He has been co-chair of the Center for Leadership Transformation Hospital Flow Program which has won numerous state and national awards for its innovative programs. He has been an invited speaker at national conferences and has published numerous articles on medication safety. He has won numerous teaching awards including the Stanford Medicine Arthur Bloomfield Award for Teaching in Clinical Medicine.

He was appointed to the California Medi-Cal Drug Advisory Board by the California Director of Health Services. He has served on the Board of Directors for the National Public Health and Hospital Institute and as Board Chair of the Essential Hospitals Institute in Washington D.C which is affiliated with America’s Essential Hospitals Organization and has provided physician and health policy advocacy in our nation’s capital during the enactment of the Affordable Care Act. He is President-elect of the Santa Clara County Medical Association and Vice Chair of District 7 for the California Medical Association. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Wang received his undergraduate degree in Genetics at the University of California, Davis, a graduate degree in Epidemiology from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Public Health, and his medical degree from the University of California, Irvine. He completed his internship, residency, and chief residency in internal medicine at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.
